FAQs
How does the treatment work?
Pigmented lesions absorb the light energy, which heats them up. As the heat breaks down the melanin-filled cells, it causes minimal damage to the surrounding skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process.
After treatment, the lesions may appear darker and form a micro-crust. Over the next 1-3 weeks, this crust will naturally flake off, revealing fresh, clear skin beneath with little to no trace of the original pigmentation.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Pigmentation Removal Treatment is ideal for individuals looking to target sun spots, age spots, freckles, and other superficial pigmentation caused by sun exposure or aging. These treatments work best on lighter skin types, where there’s good contrast between the pigmented lesion and the surrounding skin.
However, large, dark, or raised pigmented lesions may not be suitable for this treatment. In such cases, we recommend a consultation with a dermatologist for evaluation. Additionally, moles or areas with extensive pigmentation should be assessed before proceeding.
We can also treat Seborrheic Keratosis, which may resemble a mole with a waxy or textured surface. For these, we require written confirmation from your healthcare provider that the lesion has been approved for treatment.
To determine if Pigmentation Removal is right for you, we recommend booking a consultation with one of our specialists.
How does the treatment feel?
Treatment is generally well-tolerated. The sensation is typically described as a mild, quick snap or sting on the skin as the light energy is applied. This is normal and brief, with any discomfort usually subsiding immediately after the treatment. There’s no need for anaesthesia or numbing creams.
What should I expect after the treatment?
After your session, you may experience mild redness in the treated area, which is completely normal and fades quickly. Treated lesions will initially appear darker as which indicates an effective treatment. Over the next few days, a micro crust will form on the treated lesions, which will naturally flake away, revealing clearer, more even skin beneath. It is common and expected for the “new skin” to appear slightly pinker initially initially however this does normalise quickly.
Although there isn’t any significant downtime, you may wish to consider upcoming events and plan your treatments around them due to the temporary darkening of the lesions. You can return to your normal activities right after the treatment. Just ensure that you protect your skin with high factor sunscreen of 30+ and minimise skin heating. It is important that micro crusting is left to flake away naturally and must not be exfoliated.
How long does each treatment take?
The duration of each treatment session depends on the number and size of the lesions, as well as the area being treated. Typically, sessions last between 10 to 45 minutes.
How many treatments are necessary?
Typically, 1-3 sessions are needed for optimal results.
It’s important to note that sun exposure and the use of fake tan may cause pigmentation to reappear.
During your consultation, your therapist will assess your skin and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
